If You Need to Change Your Alaska Airlines Flight, What Are the Economical Options?

Same-day confirmed flight changes can be a bargain (no more than $25) for those with a confirmed flight sold and operated by Alaska Airlines - which is one of the many reasons we love Alaska!
How do you qualify?
To qualify for a same-day change you must keep the same departure, arrival and connecting cities on the same day as your confirmed flight. For flights departing between 12:00 a.m. and 3:59 a.m., the new desired flight may depart at or after 10:00 p.m. on the day prior to your original departure. For all other changes outside of these parameters the normal change fees and fare difference will be applied.
It’s easy to request a same-day change during online or mobile check-in, by request to customer service by phone or in the airport, or during check-in at an airport kiosk.
If you’ve missed a flight you will need to request the change with a customer service agent once you arrive at the airport.
For non-MVP Gold or Gold 75 flyers on Alaska:
Confirmed flight changes are available for only $25 six hours prior to your desired new flight time as long as a seat is available (e.g. if you wish to change to a noon flight, you can request a confirmed flight change any time after 6 a.m. that same day).
And if you are booked on nonstop flights between Anchorage and Fairbanks, Seattle and Portland, or Seattle and Spokane, you also have the option to request free Same Day Standby.
For Mileage Plan MVP Gold and Gold 75 members and customers booked in F, D, A (First) and Y, Z (Coach) classes of service:
As long as a seat is available, it’s yours free of charge! You can make the request after 10 p.m. the day prior to the scheduled flight and, if a seat cannot be confirmed on your desired flight, you may request free Same-Day Standby.
And here’s a trick: If you have flexibility on the day of your departure and are a bit of a risk taker, you can take a chance and purchase the least expensive flight with the same departure, arrival and connection cities and hope to change to a confirmed spot on your actual desired flight!
