What Is a Codeshare Partner and How Do You Benefit? Alaska Will Soon Have 13 Partners!
November 2015
Alaska Airlines and Emirates have officially announced their intention to become codeshare partners. This will expand Alaska’s codeshare partnerships to 13 and extends extensive Elite reciprocity to a third airline.
The main benefits of Alaska’s codeshare agreements are the ease of booking multi-segment trips all over the world and across airlines as one itinerary, seamless baggage handling and the ability to earn Alaska Mileage Plan miles on codeshare partner flights.
And Alaska Mileage Plan Elite members currently enjoy additional benefits on American and Delta. And in a more limited arrangement, Alaska MVP Gold and Gold 75 members enjoy Saga Lounge access at Keflavík International Airport in Reykjavík with Icelandair.
Mileage Plan Elites enjoy these benefits on American: MVP Gold and Gold 75 Mileage Plan members have access to priority check-in, boarding, express security lines, preferred seating, plus two free checked bags and one free checked bag for MVP members on American Airlines flights (learn more about Elite benefits on American).
Mileage Plan Elites enjoy these benefits on Delta: Elite-Level Mileage Plan members have access to priority check-in, boarding, preferred seating, and complimentary domestic upgrades on Delta Airlines flights (learn more about Elite benefits on Delta).
And now Alaska and Emirates are about to get cozier! Alaska Airlines and Emirates have officially announced their intention to become codeshare partners (pending government approval).
Once approved, the Elite perks will include:
Access to priority check-in and boarding at Dubai, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle for members with Elite Status on either airline
Emirates Business Class lounge access for Alaska Airlines Gold and Gold 75 members
Alaska Airlines Boardroom Access for Emirates Skywards Gold and Platinum members
The first time we flew from Seattle to Dubai on Emirates, we enjoyed double Alaska Mileage Plan miles on top of our Elite status mileage bonuses. Alaska and Emirates are close partners so that special promotion typically comes only once or twice a year - be on the lookout for it!
Redeeming Mileage Plan award miles on luxurious Emirates flights, including the A380, is often a great redemption value, especially in the premium cabins and if you build in a free stopover. We recently booked a free stopover on a Business Class Mileage Plan award ticket on Emirates from the Maldives to Seattle through Dubai in January to visit Oman!
The Wrap-Up:
We will be sure to let you know when the Emirates codeshare agreement is approved and goes live. The agreement provides extensive Elite luxury benefits to a third airline for Mileage Plan members and increases convenience and luxury across the world!
