In 2015, Starwood announced the introduction of a marketing partnership with Design Hotels, a collection of independently-owned boutique properties with a focus on design and cultural authenticity.
in November 12, 2015, only five Design Hotels were listed on the Starwood website and now the number of hotels is close to 150, opening the door for SPG members to earn and redeem Starpoints and enjoy most of the same SPG Elite benefits.
Design Hotels has over 200 hotels and Starwood has plans to keep adding more to the SPG program. Starwood has had an ownership stake in Design Hotels for some time. In fact, Starwood owns a 74% equity interest in Design Hotels but has allowed this company to manage the brand independently. Adding Design Hotels to the Starwood mix is an exciting development for SPG loyalists!
