Through November 14, 2016, you’ll enjoy 20% more American Airlines AAdvantage miles when you convert your Marriott Rewards points. But does it make good financial sense to convert?
We value Marriott Rewards points at 0.7 cents per point and AAdvantage miles at 2.0 cents per mile.
At the lower transfer levels you are giving away quite a bit of Marriott Rewards value by converting to AAdvantage miles, but it becomes a good deal if you transfer 30,000 or more points:
Transfer 10,000 Marriott Rewards points worth $70 for 2,400 AAdvantage miles worth $48 - this is a poor conversion value
Transfer 20,000 Marriott Rewards points worth $140 for 6,000 AAdvantage miles worth $120 - this is a poor conversion value
Transfer 30,000 Marriott Rewards points worth about $210 for 12,000 AAdvantage miles worth $240 - this is a good conversion value
Transfer 70,000 Marriott Rewards points worth $490 for 30,000 AAdvantage miles worth $600 - this is a great conversion value
Transfer 140,000 Marriott Rewards points worth $980 for 60,000 AAdvantage miles worth $1,200 - this is a great conversion value
And, Marriott Travel Packages are a great value at any points transfer level. It’s especially lucrative with this 20% AAdvantage bonus.
Here’s a helpful example -
For 260,000 Marriott Reward points, you will enjoy a 7-night stay in a category 7 hotel and 60,000 AAdvantage miles with the 20% bonus:
Marriott always gives you the 5th award night free, so a 7-night stay in a level 7 hotel, equates to 210,000 points (35,000 points x 6 nights)
Because you also receive 60,000 AAdvantage miles, it’s like trading 50,000 Marriott Rewards points (260,000 - 210,000) for 60,000 AAdvantage miles
We value Marriott Rewards points at 0.7 cents per point and AAdvantage miles at 2.0 cents per mile, so you are trading 50,000 Marriott Rewards points worth $350 for 60,000 AAdvantage miles worth 1,200

Marriott Travel Packages are a great value at any points transfer level. It’s especially lucrative with this 20% AAdvantage bonus.
And if you are only transferring points to miles and it’s your goal to build up your AAdvantage balance and have 30,000 or more Marriott Rewards points to transfer, this is a good value. But it’s a poor conversion value to transfer 10,000 or 20,000 Marriott Rewards points.
