Alaska Airlines has taken on it’s 17th airline partner - Japan Airlines (JAL). The codeshare agreement and frequent flier partnership will take effect June 29, 2016. What does this mean for you?
For West Coasters especially, this partnership means easier travel and mileage opportunities between North America, Japan and the rest of Asia. According to Alaska, travelers will also experience seamless reservations and ticketing, baggage checked to their final destination, smooth connections and the opportunity to earn Mileage Plan miles with JAL.
And through September 30, 2016, you can earn double Alaska Mileage Plan miles when you fly nonstop on Japan Airlines to Japan from Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, or Vancouver, B.C. in First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy, and select economy fares after registration. This offer is valid on flights that are both marketed and operated by Japan Airlines in these fare classes:
First Class – A, F
Business Class – C, D, J, I, X
Premium Economy – E, W
Economy fares – B, H, K, M, Y
The double miles offer is not valid on free or award travel. Double miles do not count towards Mileage Plan elite status and will be awarded within four to six weeks of meeting the promotion's qualifications.
JAL flies nonstop to Tokyo from Los Angeles, San Fransisco, San Diego and Vancouver BC. JAL also flies directly to Osaka from Los Angeles. Though this seems to favor Californians, Alaska Airlines has plenty of flights from all over the US, Canada and Mexico to connect you to JAL.
While Mileage Plan members can now accrue Alaska miles with JAL, award travel using Alaska miles will be available later this year.
