This is how Wi-Fi policies stack up across the major hotel chains:
IHG: Basic Wi-Fi is free for all IHG Rewards Club members - a good reason to sign up for the IHG Rewards Club
Hilton: Basic Wi-Fi is free for all Hilton HHonors members as long as you book your stay directly through Hilton and not a third party (e.g. Expedia, Priceline, etc.); Premium Wi-Fi is free for Diamond members and available on a tiered pricing system starting at $3.95 per day for all other HHonors members - a good reason to sign up for Hilton HHonors and to book directly with Hilton
Hyatt: Basic Wi-Fi is free for all guests (even non-Hyatt Gold Passport members) on an unlimited number of devices, regardless if you book through Hyatt or a third party; Premium Wi-Fi, when available, is free for Diamond and Platinum Hyatt Gold Passport members
Marriott and Ritz Carlton: Basic Wi-Fi is free for all Marriott Rewards and Ritz-Carlton Rewards members; Premium Wi-Fi, when available, is free for Gold and Platinum Elite members and will cost $5 to $7 per day for all other members - a good reason to sign up for Marriott or Ritz-Carlton Rewards!
Starwood: Basic Wi-Fi is free for all Starwood Preferred Guest members as long as you book your stay directly through Starwood and not a third party (e.g. Expedia, Priceline, etc.); Premium Wi-Fi, when available, is free for SPG Gold, Platinum, and Partners members - a good reason to sign up for the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) program and to book directly with Starwood
Also, American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR) program, a portal for Amex Platinum cardholders, is also now offering free Wi-Fi for hotel stays booked through their portal!
