Hertz announced a recent update to their terms and conditions. Effective July 15, 2015, if you rent in the US or Canada and drive less than 75 miles you will be asked to provide a fuel receipt or incur a charge of $13.99.

In our experience, being asked to produce a fuel receipt by any car rental company is a random occurrence. We always keep ours handy just in case. With Hertz, not keeping your receipt could be costly at $13.99 - especially if you’ve only driven a short distance.
