American & US Airways - Merger Update

Introduction Image for: American & US Airways - Merger Update

US Airways is Gone Gone Gone!

July 2015

On October 17, 2015, US Airways will fade into the sunset, joining Continental, TWA, PanAm and other once-dominant high-flyers at that great airline retirement home in the sky.

As you know, Dividend Miles was retired and blended into the AAdvantage program earlier in 2015.

On October 17, 2015, only the American Airlines website, mobile app, travel policies and AAdvantage loyalty program will remain:

  • American Airlines and US Airways will be blended into one reservation system

  • All flights will be marketed as American Airlines at that time

  • The US Airways website and mobile app will no longer exist

Starting on July 18, all flights in the US Airways reservation system departing on or after October 17 will be transitioned over to American Airlines flights.

Until October 17, continue to book your travel on aa.com or usairways.com as usual and check-in with the airline operating your flight.

AA.com has a good webpage for more information on the American Airlines and US Airways merger.

The Wrap-Up:

October 17, 2015, is the big day retirement day for US Airways, after which only the American Airlines website, mobile app, travel policies and AAdvantage loyalty program will remain.

And because it wasn’t a completely smooth transition when the last big merger of reservation systems occurred between Continental Airlines and United Airlines, we sure hope this transition has fewer kinks and our TRVLVIP Members can continue to travel without disruption!
