Plan to Travel for the Holidays on an American Award Ticket? Book Now - a Holiday Surcharge is Expected!
Expiration Date – August 30, 2015
American Airlines currently requires a set number of miles for award travel based on the type of award (MileSAAver Off Peak, MileSAAver, AAnytime Level 1 or AAnytime Level 2), region and cabin. No blackout dates exist on AAdvantage award flights - if a seat is available and you want it, it’s yours!
But, recent word on the street is to expect an award travel surcharge on several of the busiest travel days of the year - particularly around the holidays. Awards may require more miles on both domestic and international routes and across all cabins for those busy days beginning sometime around August 2015. Our assumption is that those days will be the day before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after and a few days around Christmas and New Year’s Eve - and we’ll update you when and if it is announced.
The Wrap-Up:
Take a break from the hot summer weather and cool off (at least in your head) while planning your fall and winter holiday trips now - before the surcharge kicks in!
