AAdvantage Elite Members Who Will be Downgraded or Will Lose Status in 2016, Listen Up!

American Airlines is once again offering an AAdvantage Boost or Renew opportunity for members who will fall short of qualifying (or re-qualifying) for AAdvantage Elite status in 2017!
You are eligible for an Elite status Boost if your 2015 AAdvantage Elite-qualifying activity is within 15,000 Elite-qualifying miles (EQMs) or points, or 18-20 Elite-qualifying segments (EQSs) of reaching AAdvantage Gold (18), Platinum (18) or Executive Platinum (20) AND you had Elite status in 2015.
Customers who are receiving temporary Elite status as part of a special status match challenge offer are not eligible for Elite status renewal unless they successfully complete the special challenge.

The cost to Boost or Renew ranges from $399-$2,499 and is dependent on how many 2015 EQMs you accrued or EQSs you flew.
Does it make sense to participate?
It is very expensive to Boost or Renew. You should really consider if the AAdvantage Elite status benefits outweigh the monetary cost considering the travel you anticipate in 2016. AND you are not actually buying redeemable miles that can be used for award travel, you are simply buying the opportunity to Boost or Renew your Elite status.
The AAdvantage Elite status qualification year used to determine 2015 status ends on December 31, 2015.
You have until July 31, 2016, to take advantage of this offer. But since your status is updated within five days of purchase, if you plan to participate you will likely want to do it before your next flight on American Airlines or one of their partner airlines after your Elite status is gone or downgraded on March 1, 2016.
AAdvantage Boost:
If you are within 15,000 EQMs or 15 EQSs of your desired status on or before December 31, 2015, you can Boost your status!
AAdvantage Renew:
If you are unable to retain your Elite status from 2015, you can Renew now.
Are you eligible to Boost?
Gold Status Boost (normally requires 25,000 EQMs or 30 EQSs)
In 2015 if you had 20,000-24,999 EQMs or 24-29 EQSs you can Boost for $399
In 2015 if you had 15,000-19,999 EQMs or 18-23 EQSs you can Boost for $499
In 2015 if you had 10,000-14,999 EQMs or 12-17 EQSs you can Boost for $649
If you are not in the range to qualify for a Boost - 2015 Gold, Platinum and Executive Platinum members are eligible for a Gold Elite status Renewal for $649.
Platinum Status Boost (normally requires 50,000 EQMs or 60 EQSs)
In 2015 if you had 45,000-49,999 EQMs or 54-59 EQSs you can Boost for $699
In 2015 if you had 40,000-44,999 EQMs or 48-53 EQSs you can Boost for $899
In 2015 if you had 35,000-39,999 EQMs or 42-47 EQSs you can Boost for $1,199
If you are not in the range to qualify for a Boost - 2015 Platinum and Executive Platinum members are eligible for a Platinum Elite status Renewal for $1,199.
Executive Platinum Status Boost (normally requires 100,000 EQMs or 120 EQSs)
In 2015 if you had 95,000-99,999 EQMs or 114-119 EQSs you can Boost for $1,199
In 2015 if you had 90,000- 94,999 EQMs or 108-113 EQSs you can Boost for $1,799
In 2015 if you had 85,000-89,999 EQMs or 100-107 EQSs you can Boost for $2,499
The Renewal option is not available for Executive Platinum. But as an Executive Platinum member, even if you have not qualified for any Elite status level for 2016, you can boost your Elite status to Gold or Platinum, or if you have qualified for AAdvantage Gold status for 2016, you can boost your elite status level to Platinum.

Please note, once you make a Boost or Renew purchase it is non refundable (even if you pay to Boost or Renew and qualify on your own later). And if you are eligible to purchase either a Gold or Platinum status Boost, you may switch to the higher Elite status level before July 31, 2106, by calling AAdvantage Customer Service and paying the difference.
